Evergreen marketing is such a foreign concept in this time of social media startups and hand waving, chasing your tail small business marketing.
Evergreen marketing, heck evergreen entrepreneurship in general is a dying art and one I think deserves a little bit of credit, instead of the scorn I feel out in the marketplace for anyone who is building an actual business and a brand that is in it for the long haul!
If you listen to the media (and I do), the only people who matter are the ones who got rich quick, shooting like a rocket from the unknown to formerly unseen heights of glory. Well, hum. I talk to many “overnight successes” and to a man (or woman), they talk about the years and sometimes the decades spent in obscurity, toiling away, trying, failing and then POOF, the world notices them!
So what are some the traits of an Evergreen Entrepreneur?
- An undying drive to create and see their vision succeed
- A will to fall down, and then dust themselves off and try again
- The ability to learn from their mistakes, rather than be brought down through thoughts of failure
- Supportive spouses and friends who are willing to hear “a great idea” and still get excited even though this is hardly the first
I never really thought of myself as an entrepreneur formally until this company, this time. My first marketing company was nice, launching in 2001 after I was laid off during the tech downfall of the early part of this century. I had a little severance package that bought some really great software and machinery and I stuck up a sign, open for business. I got some work, but didn't try all that hard and when, in the Mid-2000s we bought ANOTHER house, I thought, hey what about doing real estate (another Entrepreneurial endeavor for sure!) I quickly became successful and DAMN real estate is hard when you have a lot of clients…so I headed back over to happy marketing.
Now don't get me wrong, owning a marketing company is no walk in the park, BUT it is my first love and I am pleased to be able to offer work to a number of different people who I REALLY enjoy spending time with!
Since then I have tried a number of products and services that had responses from ugh to WOW!, finally settling on offering marketing coaching, social media marketing services and information products.
Are You An Evergreen Entrepreneur?
So, now comes the question for you! Do you have a burning desire to own your own business (and destiny)? Do you have the stick-to-it-iveness to keep trying and failing, and getting up and trying again?
If so, please let me know so I can keep you in the loop for all things entrepreneurial! From marketing to time management and goal setting, the peeps in this group will all be on the cutting edge of what is going on and what they should be watching for going forward!
there is no sales pitch, no opt-in to getting bombarded with offers – I am writing a book and want to keep my entrepreneur friends close!
