Why I Made These Pins For You
I am a non fiction author myself and I KNOW how hard it is to start marketing your book after you have spent all that time actually writing the thing!
The brilliant part about Pinterest is that once you have posted those pins, they stick around forever and are a way for people to find your book.
And yes! You can link your pins to either a blog post about your book (recommended to collect email addresses) or to your Amazon profile or page!
Why Pinterest?
If you are not super into Pinterest Marketing, you might be thinking, why Pinterest? Why not Facebook, Instagram or other social media platforms?
Pinterest is a visual search engine and a huge percentage of the searches by Pinterest users are unbranded, meaning they aren't looking for a particular author's name, instead they are trying to find things like “the best romance books to read on a plane” or “how to potty train my child”.
If you can find a way to present your book to those searchers in a way that is visually appealing and fun then you have the chance to get the click and sell more books!
Oh, and then when the pinnner saves your pin to their Pinterest board it is shown to other users on the platform that also like books like yours so you have the chance to spread beyond just your own account!
Introduction to Canva for Non-Fiction Authors
Canva is a brilliant design platform, even for authors who don't possess a professional designer's eye. That is where I come in! I have designed these templates for you to modify and use as your own!
What I really love is how easy Canva is to use. If you can drag-and-drop, you can build your own stylish marketing pieces for Pinterest. (and yep that is an affiliate link so if you sign up through my link I earn a wee bit of money!)
Since you probably have already spent good money on getting your book cover designed, this is a way to get marketing graphics without having to pay a designer again!
All you need to do is drag and drop your book cover and other graphics from inside Canva to customize the pins for your branding and book marketing efforts!
It eliminates the need to hire outside talent to get that polished look on your pins.
Navigating Free Canva Templates
The best part is Canva's incredible selection of free resources that you can use (if you are going to do lots of pins I suggest going pro which opens up loads more options and it is super cheap … like under $15 a month cheap)
You can customize the colors, fonts, and images to align perfectly with your book's branding. This is not about reinventing the wheel, but using expertly designed pieces as a base for your pins.
Crafting Your Message
When designing your Pinterest pins, keep these tips in mind:
- Strong Headlines: Capture attention with a bold statement or question that reflects the core of your book.
- High-Quality Visuals: Relevant, clear images help users see what your book is about. Canva has a fantastic stock photo library or you can upload your own cover art.
- Calls to Action: Tell people what to do next! Guide users to your website, a sample chapter, or a place to find out more about your work.
Maximizing Your Pinterest Presence
Pinterest isn't just about eye-catching pins. Here are some strategies to optimize your non-fiction presence:
- Relevant SEO: Like Google, Pinterest works with keywords. Be sure to include search terms throughout your pin titles, pin descriptions, and even on the images themselves.
- Board Organization: Make sure your boards are targeted, like “Personal Finance Tips” or “Mindfulness Practices”. It shows that you're knowledgeable in your niche.
- Regular Pinning: Consistency is key. Pin consistently and strategically to reach new viewers.
