9 Things to Stop Saying if You Want to Make More Money

Ever catch yourself saying something out loud and immediately feeling that little inner cringe? You know - the voice that’s like, “Oof, did I really just say that?” Well, if you're trying to grow your business and actually make good money (the kind that pays bills and lets you splurge on fancy pens or a weekend away), then it might be time for a mindset makeover!

9 Things to Stop Saying if You Want to Make More Money

After working with nearly 1,000 entrepreneurs, I’ve heard it all. And these 9 phrases? They’re the equivalent of throwing a wet blanket on your business fire. Let’s break them down, ditch the self-sabotage, and get your money mojo flowing!

1. “I’m Just Not Good With Money”

Girl, NO. You weren’t born knowing how to ride a bike either, but here you are cruising through life in Target with a latte and a cart full of “essentials.” Money is a skill, not a personality trait. If you’ve told yourself you're bad with it, start treating that thought like spam in your inbox - DELETE!

Action tip: Start with small habits. Track your income, check your accounts weekly, and celebrate every dollar earned like it’s champagne-worthy (because honestly, it is).

2. “I Can’t Charge That Much”

Oh, I FELT this one in my bones. I used to undercharge like it was a competitive sport - until I realized I was basically paying people to let me help them. Not cool. And let’s be real, when you charge too little, resentment creeps in... fast. Even if you deliver amazing work (which I always did), you’re left drained and salty.

Here’s the truth: people value what they invest in. Charge what you’re worth, not what your imposter syndrome says you deserve.

3. “I’ll Never Be Able to Afford That”

You know what this does? It slams the mental door shut before opportunity can even knock. Instead, try asking, “What would it take for me to afford that?” See the difference? One kills the dream, the other starts a plan.

Money flows where creativity goes - so let your brain start problem-solving instead of sulking.

4. “I Don’t Deserve to Make That Kind of Income”

Whyyyyy do we do this to ourselves?! Spoiler: Deservingness has zero to do with income. Your value isn’t measured by your past mistakes, your number of certifications, or your “niceness.” It’s measured by the problems you solve and the results you deliver.

Start owning your magic. Say it with me: “I am allowed to be wildly successful!”

5. “People Won’t Pay for That”

Oh but they will. I’ve coached so many entrepreneurs who thought their talents were “too basic” to charge for. NEWSFLASH: Just because it’s easy for you doesn’t mean it’s easy for everyone else! That tech thing you can do in 10 minutes? Someone else would rather pay $200 than even attempt it.

If it solves a problem, saves time, or makes someone’s life better - it’s valuable!

6. “It’s Too Late for Me to Start Over”

Unless you’re a gallon of milk, you are not past your expiration date. Your best earning years could be ahead of you! I’ve seen women launch businesses at 50, 60 - even 70. The market doesn’t care how old you are. It cares that you show up with a solution and a smile.

Let’s reframe: “It’s the perfect time to pivot.”

7. “I Should Be Further Along By Now”

Comparisonitis is a TOXIC little gremlin. This phrase piles guilt on top of disappointment, and neither helps you grow. Progress isn’t a race - it’s a puzzle. Every weird job, failed launch, and cringey client built your experience. It all counts.

Instead of shaming yourself, try celebrating how far you’ve come. Yes, even the messy middle!

8. “I Have to Do Everything Myself”

I used to be queen of the DIY kingdom... until I accidentally BLOCKED my first blog from showing up in Google (yep, true story). All because I didn’t want to spend a little money for expert help. And let me tell you - it cost me WAY more in time and missed opportunities!

Hiring support isn’t indulgent - it’s smart. Free yourself up to do the work only you can do.

9. “Making Money Isn’t That Important to Me”

This one’s tricky. I’m not naturally money-motivated either. I’d rather get a gold star than a gold coin most days. But here’s the deal: if your business doesn’t make money, it’s not sustainable. And whether you’re supporting a family, saving for freedom, or just paying the mortgage, money matters!

Think of money as a tool - not a trophy. It gives you choices, breathing room, and the power to keep doing what you love.

Final Thoughts: Rewriting the Script on Money

Every time you catch yourself saying one of these phrases, imagine me lovingly wagging a finger at you while handing you a caramel macchiato. You’re allowed to rewrite your story, flip the script, and decide that YES - you can be wealthy and wise and wonderful all at once. 💕

Making more money starts with believing it's possible... and stopping the little lies we tell ourselves that say otherwise.
